I know that it won’t be autumn until the end of September, but as more and more stores are putting out all of their fall merchandise it has me thinking about fall. And one of the wonderful things about this time of year is the apples. We haven’t gotten any apple trees planted here just yet though. Our apple needs will have to be filled by someone else’s orchard. That won’t stop me from sharing some apple facts with you though.
At some point in the future I know that I’ll have to plant some apple trees around here. I’ve been very interested in growing some of the heritage apples that you can’t seem to purchase anywhere. And you might ask, just what do I like to do with my apples? Out of hand eating is great, I make a chunk of apple sauce and apple butter as well. Some go into making apple cider, both hard and not. I even used some peels and cores for apple cider vinegar last year. As this project progresses I’ll be sure to share some recipes and procedures on how do make some of those with you all.
Here’s our Hootenanny Hollow Apple Infographic
By all means, we’d love to see this get shared around, it will really help us out. If you do share it other places, it would be great to add a link back to our little site.
The only thing left to do is to ask you, what do you like to do with apples? What are your favorite varieties? Do you grow your own or do you get them from a local orchard? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
