Livestock Update: Just What Do We Have Around Here

So we have technically had livestock since shortly after we moved in here.  As bees are lifeforms that are kept to produce honey, they are considered livestock and since we got them a little after we moved in, nearly a year of livestock.  But this year we have acquired some additional livestock around these parts.  I’ve written a bit about the 12 khaki campbells that moved in in January, but recently there have been a few new additions as well.

Building a Duck House

As you have no doubt seen if you have been following the instaham feed, it was time to construct an outside kind of home for the ducks.  I’ve seen various sources that they’ve moved their ducks out after two weeks with a heat lamp and others stated that 4 weeks was enough and some said 6 weeks was good.  Since I started in January I wanted to make sure it was warm enough for them and they wouldn’t get too cold.  Seems that 8 weeks was the right amount of time, partly because I was running out of space for them in the brooder area.

What of the Ducks: Your Weekly Duckling Update

The little ducklings continue to grow, while they have perhaps slowed on getting bigger, it has been interesting watching their adult feathers come in.  Some of them have begun quacking, others are still peeping.  Since the last time I wrote about them we’ve had some, shall we say, adventures.  Don’t worry, everyone is still with us.

Another Update on Growing Ducks

Well, it seems that these ducks just keep growing.  I got my fencing in and it is up and has the charger attached and should be working well.  I need to go out and use the tester that I got to verify the fence is on and electrified.  I know there is the other way…but I have a tester so I might as well go ahead and use it.

Seems That Ducks can Grow Rather Quickly

So last Thursday I got some ducks, as you may have noticed from last week’s post.  Or if you have seen the Instagram feed it is bordering on all ducks all the time.  I promise you there will be other things on the ducks on there, but you have to admit ducklings are quite cute.  I must say, though, I am rather shocked at how fast they’ve grown.  With my understanding that they were shipped out within a day or so of their hatching and thinking that they would be shipped overnight or one day I would have to believe that these ducks were born around the 16th or 17th.

And Then There Were Ducks!

As I had mentioned this year we were looking at getting ducks.  I didn’t put that the ducks had been on order already.  Well, I can proudly say that they have arrived.  I got a phone call from the post office in the morning saying that a box of chicks had arrived.  So I headed down to the local post office and picked them up.

The Ducks are Coming, Time to Get Ready

So I’ve written on a few occasions in the past about reason to raise ducks and what my plans where to keep some.  The time has come for another update, but this one is a little bit more than a plan.  The exciting news is that the ducks are coming!  They have been ordered and at some point this next week I should be getting some ducks arriving in the mail.
