Some Information on Making Apple Cider

So I came across an old blog that I was working on and thought, I might as well move it over here.

So then, a friend of mine had gotten a cider kit and attempted to make a batch of hard cider.  I’m not overly sure of what all happened but she decided to dump it.  So I figure that now is a good time to jot down a few notes on making hard cider.  First lets start with Sanitize, sanitize, sanitize.

Making Apple Sauce or What Happens When There are too Many Apples

So I enjoy apple sauce, especially with pork.  My little bug enjoys apple sauce as well.  Because of this I make apple sauce every year.  The other thing is that much like making cider, apple sauce is a great way to use bruised apples or to take care of apples that you think might turn bad.  Clearly if the apple is rotten you don’t want to use it, but it is up to you how bruised and such you want to draw the line at.

What Apple Trees to Plant When Starting an Orchard

When is the best time to plant a tree?  About 20 years ago.  The second best time is today.  No matter what kind of tree you plant it is going to take years to grow and mature.  Being fall, to my way of thinking it is time for apples.  I don’t have any apple trees planted yet I have been making a plan of what I would want to plant.  I was looking for a blend of trees that would give me a range of harvest times as well as a range of uses (eating, baking, cider, sauce).

Some Fantastic Fall Apple Facts to Share [Infographic]

I know that it won’t be autumn until the end of September, but as more and more stores are putting out all of their fall merchandise it has me thinking about fall.  And one of the wonderful things about this time of year is the apples.  We haven’t gotten any apple trees planted here just yet though.  Our apple needs will have to be filled by someone else’s orchard.  That won’t stop me from sharing some apple facts with you though.
